How it works

Hierarchical view of the Bills of Materials (BOMs)

When you define the BOMs of your products, some products entering into the composition of the product of the BOM can also have their own BOMs.

The hierarchical view allows you to visualize the entire chain of products composed/components in hierarchical form where each node represents a line of a BOM except the root one which represents the current BOM.

The hierarchy is composed of several levels:

  • Level 0 or root node: represents the current BOM
  • Level 1: represents the lines of the current BOM
  • Level 2: represents the lines of the BOMs of level 1
  • Level 3: represents the lines of the BOMs of level 2
  • ...
  • Level N: represents the lines of the BOMs of level N - 1

It is possible to export a png image of the hierarchy displayed by the dedicated button.
It is also possible to temporarily display/hide the MiniMap and the Grid by the dedicated check boxes.
It is also possible to zoom by the mouse wheel (if enabled in the global settings) or by Ctrl + Mouse Wheel.

Each node of level N displays:

  • The ref. (clickable) and the label of the nomenclature to which it belongs
  • The ref. (clickable) and the label of the product: component for level N - 1 and compound for level N + 1
  • The quantity of the product as defined in the associated BOM

Limitation

This representation assumes that if a product has a BOM, it only has that BOM.
This means that if a product has several BOMs, the hierarchical representation will not be correct.
If the algorithm encounters such cases, it uses the 1st BOM encountered associated with the product and displays in red the nodes of the other BOMs associated with the same product.

In the example below, the product "P005 - Phare" is defined by 3 BOMS: "BOM2311-0021 - Fabrication Phare", "(PROV48) - Fabrication Phare version 2" and "(PROV49) - Fabrication Phare version 3"
